The
Story of Teco

MUCH of the best of happiness
comes directly from the perception of the beautiful; and all of the beautiful,
so far as sight is concerned, arises from either form or color, and in its
highest attainment from a combination of both. There is wondrous wealth of
beauty in a curved line; indeed, all the beauty of form and shape is embodied
in it, and nowhere. else is there such opportunity for using this beauty of the
curved line as in the potters art. This has been its chief field of use since
earliest time. Its unending variety of shapes. opportunity for the use of color
is equally excellent and unsurpassed by any other art. So the potter has the
opportunity to combine those two most important producers of happiness, form
and color, and when he uses them with enthusiasm and individuality he has
indeed fulfilled a mission and has created. He has made something that makes
him happier, in the making of it, and that will go out carrying joy and
enthusiasm to all who use it or see it.
The Sterling Mark

We prize most
highly a piece of silver with the Sterling mark on it, because the
mark tells us the quality of the silver. Makers of objects of art have long
used a hall-mark as a pledge of quality. To protect the purchaser
against substitution, the Gates Potteries stamp this mark on every piece of
Teco Art Pottery, and none is genuine without it Insist that the pieces you .
purchase have the TECO mark on them, as it is your guarantee of quality and
genuineness. When you see the Teco mark on any piece of pottery you can rely
upon its artistic merit and intrinsic worth. When you select a piece of Teco
Art Pottery for a gift, you know it will be acceptable and prized by the
recipient, because the mark TECO is a guarantee of genuine art value, and will
be so recognized wherever it is seen.
Acting on the assumption that beautiful surroundings
help to produce beautiful designs, the Gates Potteries are located in a
picturesque valley beside a charming little lake. Flowers, particularly aquatic
plants, are cultivated in profusion as an incentive to the artist-designers to
take motif from these beautiful gifts of nature. Design No. 356. A pretty and
